| So I don't if you guys have heard of the Japanese thriller novel Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. It's supposedly rumored that The Hunger Games took its concept from Battle Royale. So it's basically like The Hunger Games... Except it's far more brutal, gruesome, and extreme.
The story takes place in a fictional fascist Japan where anyone who opposes the government is killed without question. Every two years, a class of third-year junior high school students is chosen for the Program. The Program wasn't created for an specific purpose... just to relieve boredom of some higher officials I guess. 40 classmates are whisked away from their school bus and placed on an island. They are told that they must kill each other and only the survivor may leave the island. They can't escape for they have metallic collars loaded with explosives and a tracking device, and there are boats placed at the edges of the island in case anyone wants to escape by sea. If no one is killed in 24 hours, all the collars detonate and everyone dies. Each student is given a bag full of some water, food, and a random weapon.
So for anyone who likes The Hunger Games, you'll love this. And for those of you who don't, if you liked Danganronpa, you'll like this too. Unlike The Hunger Games the novel doesn't go too much into depth about romance and is more about chaos, madness, and using your wits to survive.
I do NOT recommend this book to anyone who is squeamish about gore. The violence is very detailed. There was a paragraph I couldn't read because the imagery.... *shudder* But still, I think a lot of you will enjoy this book ^^

| Got the book, started to read it xD the death scenes are quite ... plastic, you really need a strong stomach to read it. It's interesting how detailed the pupils' lives are explained, it gives the book a depth that hunger games lack. | |

Yeah that's what I really like about the book ^^ I also like how the students are sent into this psychological frenzy since not everyone is willing to kill each other but they're so frightened they end up killing or being killed anyway... unlike the hunger games.
